    Table Decorations Platters Kids

Decorate your party room in pirate colours of red, black and gold with balloons, streamers, tablecloths and other pirate decorations.

No Pirate party is complete without a Pirate Flag, so hang oneacross the door or on a pole outside the house to let little pirates know where the party is.

Lay down wooden planks leading up to the doorway or paint cardboard to look like planks and have guests enter the party along a “gangway”. Use small poles and rope to line the entrance as if they’re making their way aboard a ship. To complete the effeft scatter blue cellophane beside the walkway to imitate water and add shark fins made from cardboard for fun.

Inside the party room, use timber crates or old wooden doors for tables and chairs and cover in remnants of netting or pirate themed fabric scraps. For a unique pirate tablecloth use a large map or several maps taped together. Crinkle and tea stain the maps to give them an aged, long forgotten look. A small treasure chest makes a great centrepiece for the party table, especially when it’s filled with chocolate coins and the children’s favourite lollies.

Every young pirate wants the adventure of finding treasures so, fill a pirate treasure box with gold and jewels and mark out a treasure map on your floor using black electrical tape. If you don't have a treasure chest, a lined laundry basket with red satin or pirate themed fabric, will do the trick.

    • Pirate Snap

      Pirate Snap

To play you will need a pack of pirate cards and some plastic gold coins for a game of pirate snap. At the start hand out to each player an even amount of gold coins. Don’t forget to change the rules so players must yell "aaargh" instead of snap to win the pile of cards. Each time there is a winner all other players must hand over a gold coin to the winner. At the end of the game the gold coins can be exchanged for loot like lollies, a small toy or chocolate coins.

    Treasure map

Help your guests find their way to the pirate birthday party with Treasure Map invitations. Draw a simple map of your neighbourhood and mark your home with an X. Add familiar landmarks and give them creative names like Hangman's Tree, Dead Man's Mall, and Peg-Leg's Restaurant. Give the invites a weathered look by soaking the paper in tea and tearing the edges. Then roll the maps into scrolls, secure with gold strings and mail to guests.
